How GCash charges for public transportation?
Here’s how GCash charges you for MRT-3 and LRT-2, based on your payment method:
Tap to Pay and Card
MRT-3
You will see 3 charges for one trip:
- The first fare is charged when you tap in.
- When you exit, this first fare is refunded.
- The correct fare for your trip is then charged.
Important reminders
- Tap only one card or device (not your whole wallet or bag).
- Use the same card or device to enter and exit.
- Keep enough GCash balance to avoid blocks and repeated charge attempts.
- If you use a Mastercard debit or credit card, your total fare for the day is auto-charged once it reaches PHP 250.
If a charge fails:
- Cash in to your GCash wallet.
- Tap your card on the turnstile again so your unpaid fares can be charged.
- Once a retry works, your card is usually unblocked within 1 hour.
- Your card may be blocked, and Mastercard or Visa may keep retrying the charge for up to 14 days.
- If you need to ride right away, use Commute QR or another payment method.
