How to use GCash Tap to Pay for public transportation?
You can now use GCash Tap to Pay to pay for your rides quickly and easily. For now, it is available only on MRT-3.
At LRT-2 stations, you can pay using Commute by GCash. We’re currently working with our partners to make Tap to Pay available on LRT-2 as well.
Note:
Use the same payment method to enter and exit. If you enter with GCash Tap to Pay, you must also exit with GCash Tap to Pay.
You cannot switch to GCash Commute QR, Scan to Pay, GCash Card, or other cards.
How to use GCash Tap to Pay for public transportation:
- Make sure your phone supports NFC. Go to your phone settings and look for NFC.
- Open your GCash app and make sure Tap to Pay is activated.
- Tap Commute.
- When you enter:
- Tap your phone on the validator.
- Wait for the confirmation before you go through the turnstile.
- When you exit:
- Open your GCash app.
- Tap your phone again on the validator.
- Wait for the confirmation before you go through the turnstile.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you get an error or cannot pay, do these steps:
- Make sure NFC is turned on in your phone settings.
- Make sure Tap to Pay is activated in your GCash app.
If money was deducted from your wallet but you could not enter or exit:
- Ask help from an MRT/LRT staff member.
- The staff will check if your payment was successful.
- If the payment is confirmed, they will help you enter or exit the station.
If you were charged and still could not enter or exit the MRT or LRT, click here to contact support. Our team will reach out within 24 hours.
When you ride the MRT-3 using Tap to Pay, you will see 3 charges:
- You are first charged PHP 14 when you tap in and enter.
- After you tap out and exit, the PHP 14 is returned to your wallet.
- You are then charged the actual fare for your trip.
These will show as 3 separate transactions in your GCash Transaction History.
If the initial charge was not returned, or if you see duplicate charges, click here to contact support. Our team will reach out within 24 hours.
When you use Tap to Pay at the LRT, your fare is charged at the end of the day. You will see one charge for all your LRT trips that day.
