How to use GCash Commute to pay for public transportation?
GCash Commute QR makes paying for your rides easy and fast. You can use it now on MRT-3 and LRT-2.
Note:
Use the same payment method to enter and exit. If you enter with GCash Commute QR, you must also exit with GCash Commute QR.
You cannot switch to Tap to Pay, GCash Card, or any other card when you exit.
How to access Commute QR
You can open Commute QR in 3 ways:
- Tap Commute on the home screen.
- Tap View All > go to Pay, then tap Commute.
- Tap QR on the bottom navigation bar, then tap Generate QR > Commute.
Note: First-time users will see a prompt to share consent and accept the Terms & Conditions before generating their QR.
How to use GCash Commute for public transportation:

On your GCash app, tap Commute.
- When you enter, scan your Commute QR on the validator.
- Wait for the green light or beep before passing through.
- When you exit, scan your Commute QR again on the validator.
- Wait for the green light or beep before you go through the turnstile.
Note: Use only the Commute QR. Other GCash QR codes will not work at turnstiles.
Frequently Asked Questions
This is a pilot that lets you pay MRT-3 and LRT-2 fares using a QR code from your e-wallet or EMV debit, credit, or prepaid cards instead of a beep card.
For LRT-2, only GCash QR codes will be available at launch. We’re still working with our partners to add EMV card payments in the future.
GCash Commute QR is currently the first cashless payment option available in LRT-2. More payment options will be announced once available.
Yes. You can still use your beep card on all existing gates. Only certain gates have the new QR/EMV readers.
Yes. You can check and screenshot your GCash Transaction History to see if the payment worked.
No. There is no extra fee for using GCash Commute.
Yes. Only fully verified users can use GCash Commute.
Yes. Commute works on Android and iOS phones. For now, only Android has the Download QR option.
If you are using iOS, you can take a screenshot of your QR code and use it to tap out.

If you have any issues with GCash Commute, here’s what you can do:
If you can’t use Commute, do these steps:

Check your GCash balance.
- For MRT-3, you need at least PHP 14.
- For LRT-2, you need at least PHP 16.50.
- Station staff can help you find the nearest cash-in machine.

Check your internet connection.
- You need internet to create a new QR code.
- If your signal is good, wait about 12 seconds for the QR to load.
- After you download the QR code, you can use it without internet.

Adjust your screen brightness.
- Your QR might not scan if your screen is too dark.
- Make your screen brighter.

Make sure you’re using the correct QR code.
- Only use the Commute QR code.
- Personal QR codes for Send Money or Scan to Pay will not work.

Check if you already scanned in.
- You can see this at the top of your Commute QR screen.
If money was deducted from your GCash wallet but you still cannot enter or exit:
- Ask help from an MRT/LRT staff member.
- The staff will check if your payment was successful.
- If the payment is confirmed, they will help you enter or exit the station.
To avoid problems, download your QR code before your trip. You can then use it even without internet.

You cannot reuse a QR code after you exit the station.
Do not share your QR code with anyone. It is only for you.
You can only scan your QR once to enter. After one scan, you can go through the turnstile and ride the train.
If your phone runs out of battery or you lose it:

Ask help from an MRT/LRT staff member.
- Tell them about your problem.

The staff will check your payment.
- They will see if your fare was paid.

If payment is confirmed, they will assist you.
- They will help you enter or exit the station.
If you do not scan when you exit, you will be charged the maximum fare (PHP 14 for MRT-3 and PHP 16.50 for LRT-2). Always scan when exiting so any extra charge can be returned to you.

When you tap in, GCash takes the maximum fare first (PHP 14 for MRT-3 and PHP 16.50 for LRT-2)
When you tap out, GCash computes your correct fare. The extra amount is sent back to you as change.
You will get your refund a few minutes after you tap out. To check:
- Wait at least 5 minutes for the extra fare to return to your GCash.
- Check your GCash Transaction History for the refund.
