How to use GCash Card for public transportation?
You can now use your GCash Mastercard or Visa Card to pay for your train rides easily and fast. For now, this is only available on MRT-3.
Note:
Use the same payment method to enter and exit. If you enter with your GCash Card, you must also exit with your GCash Card.
You cannot switch to GCash Commute QR, Scan to Pay, Tap to Pay, or other cards.
How to use GCash Card for public transportation:
- Tap your GCash Card on the validator at the entrance.
- Wait for the green light or confirmation, then go through the turnstile.
- When exiting, tap your GCash Card again on the validator.
- Wait for the confirmation before you go through the turnstile.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. You can also use other banks’ Mastercard or Visa cards. Just tap your card on the contactless payment terminal at the gate.
If your card has an old EMV chip and it does not work, please contact your bank to replace the card so you can use contactless payments.
If you cannot use your GCash Card, check these:
- Wallet balance – Make sure your GCash wallet has enough funds.
- Limits – Check that you have not reached your wallet or card limits.

If you were charged but cannot enter or exit:
- Ask help from an MRT staff member.
- The staff will check if your payment was successful.
- If the payment is confirmed, they will help you enter or exit the station.
If you were charged and still could not enter or exit the MRT, click here to contact support. Our team will reach out within 24 hours.
When you use your GCash Card to ride the train, you will see 3 charges:
- You are first charged PHP 14 when you tap in and enter MRT-3.
- After you tap out and exit, the PHP 14 is returned to your wallet.
- You are then charged the actual fare for your trip.
These will appear as 3 separate transactions in your GCash Transaction History.
