Available bonds on GBonds
GBonds offers Philippine government bonds, which are backed by the national government. This makes them low-risk investments that are suitable for both beginners and experienced investors.
GBonds offers two main kinds of government bonds:
T-Bills are short-term government bonds. They are for people who want low risk and to invest for a short time.
Key Features:
- Time period: Less than 1 year. Only 91-day T-Bills are in GBonds now.
-
How you earn:
- You buy T-Bills at a lower price.
- At the end (maturity), you get the full value.
- Your earnings are the difference.
-
When you get your money:
- You get your money only at maturity.
- You cannot sell early in GBonds.
Sample Computation of Interest:
If you invest PHP 500 in a T-bill with 5.4% interest p.a.:
- Gross Interest: PHP 500 * (5.4% * (3 months / 12 months)) = PHP 6.75
- Withholding Tax (20%): PHP 6.75 * 20% = PHP 1.35
- Net Interest Earned: PHP 6.75 - PHP 1.35 = PHP 5.40
At maturity, you will receive your principal amount and interest earned = PHP 505.40.
RTBs are long-term government bonds. They give you regular income.
Key Features:
- Time period: More than 1 year, up to 20 years or more.
-
How you earn:
- Regular interest: You get interest, for example every 3 months.
- Money back at maturity: You get back your full investment.
- Extra earnings: You may earn more if you sell at a higher price before maturity.
-
Market Options:
- Primary Market (tagged “Pre-Sale”): You can buy bonds during the first offer period, before they start.
- Secondary Market (tagged “Issued”): After the start date, you can buy RTBs or sell your RTBs before maturity. The price can be higher or lower than what you first paid, so you can gain or lose money.
-
Availability: These RTBs are on GBonds now:
- RTB31
- Offer Period (Pre-sale): August 5–15, 2025 (may be shortened by BTr)
- Issue Date: August 20, 2025
- Maturity Date: August 20, 2030
- Interest Payments: Every quarter (every 3 months)
- RTB31
Sample interest computation:
If you invest PHP 5,000 in an RTB that pays 6.25% interest per year, with interest paid every 3 months:
- Gross Quarterly Interest:
PHP 5,000 × (6.25% × (3 months ÷ 12 months)) = PHP 78.13 - Withholding Tax (20%):
PHP 78.13 × 20% = PHP 15.63 - Net Quarterly Interest:
PHP 78.13 − PHP 15.63 = PHP 62.50
You will receive PHP 62.50 every 3 months until the maturity date. At the maturity date, you will get back your PHP 5,000, plus the last interest payment = PHP 5,062.50.
